WH&S Safety first

One Momentum is heavily committed to safety. We understand the crucial role it plays on any construction site and how important it is for our staff to adhere to Australian standards, so we have made workplace safety our number one priority.

We are committed to ensuring our workers finish their jobs safely and we also want our clients to complete their project efficiently and on time. We have taken the time to streamline our safety processes and procedures in order to make the workplace safer and to assist site management with safety on site.

One Momentum ensures our workers arrive on site with suitable accreditation: white card / blue card / yellow card. All of our workers have been inducted with a general tool box talk, emphasising key safety methods prior to the commencement of work. They are aware of their roles and responsibilities on site and have all necessary PPE.

As a further commitment to our safety standards, we send our own Workplace Safety liaison to make sure our employees comply with specific on site safety measures on a regular basis. We have found in the past that this helps to ensure an efficient and harmonious worksite. It also gives our clients the peace of mind in knowing that One Momentum makes safety a priority.

In addition to our internal commitment towards our employees, we can also provide assistance to our customers with safety implementation on site, in regards to regulatory knowledge and certification. For further information please contact our office directly and we will endeavor to find the best way to accommodate your safety needs.

WHY SAFETY PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL PRIOR TO WORK COMMENCING

Construction projects are typically very complex and success entails many factors coming together and working in unison.

On-site safety is one of these necessary, critical factors and recent research has shown that having a pre-construction planning phase reduces the amount of incidents that occur. This leads to greater efficiency, time and cost savings, and has an all-round positive impact on a project.

Pre-construction safety planning works because it allows multiple parties to set out clear communication methods and hazard control measures, known as hierarchical or top down safety levels. The key here is having all parties discussing needs and known issues prior to work commencing.
These control measures put in place a framework and are meant to be adaptable. Once work begins on site many issues that arise can be dealt with by using a process known as hazard reduction. This is mid-level safety where site users implement strategies to minimise or eliminate any other hazards that potentially pose a problem. Common examples of such issues are when specialist contractors find safety issues with the work environment when they arrive on site, not having been part of the safety planning stage. Often these hazards can be discussed and remedied in toolbox meetings or site inspections.

As multiple teams of contractors are used on site, these issues can be frequent and changes need to be communicated clearly by site management, WH&S delegates and individual workers. Ineffective communication of the top and mid-level on-site safety rules can lead to poor adherence at the bottom level. This level is generally behavioural and refers to individual requirements such PPE and drug and alcohol policy.
Adhering to this safety structure and communication method is therefore an important part of any project and company work culture. Owners,Pcbu’s and site managers get improved efficiency and less downtime while employees get a safe working environment.
